There will be many languages spoken in our classroom. I ENCOURAGE families to continue to speak their home language with their child. Research shows that there is no adverse effects when children learn two or more languages at the same time. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Many children who learn more than one language have strong memories. As adults, multilingual speakers can switch back and forth between languages with no problems.
READING to your child will help them in their language development. Reading builds vocabulary. Children can make connections with what they hear and see. Also, reading with enthusiasm will help child understand the 'sounds' of language. Read in the language YOU are most comfortable reading in!
Throughout the year I will be teaching the alphabet symbols and sounds. Students are naturally curious about the alphabet, especially when they are read to. They begin to recognize that the letters represent sounds and when the sounds are put together they create words. Children quickly want to learn the letters and show the adults in their lives that they know them!
