Learning how control our emotions is a lot of work.
Developmentally, it is a very self-centered world in TK. There are a lot of emotions happening and sometimes it can just be too much.
Thankfully, there are many things a parent can do to help their child work through emotions.
Breathing often works to calm a child down, being held, and sometimes being left alone. Every child is different and needs change as children get older.
I find the breathing tool works the best for me and my students of all ages. We practice the breathing tool when we don't need it so when the time comes we are ready! Below are two different ways you can belly breath; give it a try and see how good you feel.
In TK we have a lot of social emotional learning. We aren't used to being in a room with 20 other children all wanting to play with the same toys, read the same books, or color with the same crayon. This is very typical behavior and a really important reason to be in TK.
Believe it or not, this learning doesn't stop; as children get older their needs change. With the right foundation, your child will be able to regulate themselves as they get older and learning the new feelings won't be as difficult.
