Grief is a journey that takes time, and no two experiences are the same. In seasons of loss, God meets us with gentleness and grace:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
This page offers resources to help you or someone you love find support, understanding, and hope. We encourage you to take your time, explore what’s helpful, and remember — you don’t have to walk this path alone.
Walking alongside someone who is grieving can feel daunting — but your presence, care, and consistency can make a real difference. Here are some ways to offer meaningful support as a follower of Christ:
1. Be there — and keep reaching out.
Don’t underestimate the power of simply showing up. Send a message, make the call, or drop by. Even small gestures remind your friend they are not alone.
2. Be yourself.
You don’t need to have perfect words. Just be genuine and present in your own way — whether that’s through quiet listening, gentle humour, or a comforting hug.
3. Offer simple, thoughtful care.
Bring the things you know they love — a favourite snack, a warm drink, or a comforting meal. Simple, familiar acts of kindness can communicate deep love and stability.
4. Listen without comparison.
Avoid turning the conversation toward your own experiences of loss. Your role is to hold space for their grief — to listen, acknowledge, and stay present in their story.
5. Provide practical help.
Meals, errands, childcare, or household chores can be huge blessings when someone is grieving. Offer specific, manageable help (e.g. "I can drop a casserole round at either 3pm or 6pm - let me know what you prefer") rather than a general “let me know if you need anything.”
6. Care for yourself, too.
Supporting someone through grief can stir up your own emotions. Take time to pray, reflect, and seek your own support if needed — so you can continue to love well and stay grounded.
