SGT William C. McCarthy

My Great Uncle William C. McCarthy  SN 39 927 420 served in the US Army from March 1944- October 1945. He joined the 30th Infantry Division, 117th Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion, A Company in October  1944.     He was promoted to Sergeant  December 25, 1944 and was WIA on March 24, 1945 when they made the Rhine River crossing.  He was awarded the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action and the Purple Heart Medal for being wounded in action.  I was too young to know about any of this and I never spoke to him about his time in the US Army.  He passed away in 1999.
