Important Dates and Events

Treaty 7 is the last of the Numbered Treaties made between the Government of Canada and the Plains First Nations (see Indigenous Peoples: Plains). It was signed on 22 September 1877 by five First Nations: the Siksika (Blackfoot), Kainai (Blood), Piikani (Peigan), Stoney-Nakoda, and Tsuut'ina (Sarcee).

Awards are awarded in May.

List of awards and criteria 

Attendance: Students who have had an attendance record of 95% + can be considered for this award

Academic Excellence: 80% or higher in an overall average (Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies & Religion)

Aiyika’kimawa (Outstanding) Effort: Recipients for this award will be students who demonstrate consistent and positive effort toward their academic achievement, attendance, behaviour and attitude.

Athletic: Students will be selected for this award according to the following criteria: demonstration of ongoing, outstanding sportsmanship, effort and ability in school-based athletic activities including school teams, physical education class and intra-mural sports.

Kimmapi’pitsin (Fellowship) : Students who are caring of others and self, who demonstrate pride in their Native heritage, who get along well with fellow students and teachers, are friendly, humble, outgoing and who help people in need, should receive this award.

Artistic Talent: Recipients will be students who demonstrate and share their artistic talent in any of the fine arts.

Blackfoot: The Student who demonstrates outstanding effort and strives toward academic excellence in their studies of Blackfoot should be considered for this award.

NOTE: This award is given if Junior High courses in Blackfoot are offered at a school.
