PSHE & RSE

At Holy Cross, we value Personal, Social, Health and Economic education.  We provide a planned programme of learning through which children and young people gain the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives as individuals, family members and members of society – now and in the future.

A high-quality PSHE education gives pupils the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.

From September 2020, primary schools in England also need to teach Relationships and Health Education as compulsory subjects and the Department for Education strongly recommends this should also include age-appropriate Sex Education.

Every school needs to have a broad and balanced curriculum that:

• promotes the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school;

•prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life;

• promotes British values.

At Holy Cross, we follow the Life to the Full programme to support teaching and learning in RSE (Relationship and Sexual Education). Full of Life is a programme designed to deliver Relationship and Health Education in Catholic primary schools.

The programme is based on the Department of Education guidance which became statutory during the academic year 2020/21.  This programme is rooted in a Christian understanding of the human person, based on “A Model Catholic RSE Curriculum” provided by the Catholic Education Service.
