Curriculum Intent

At Holy Cross we grow hearts and minds, today, tomorrow and for life. Through a dynamic and inspiring curriculum, we strive to develop every child's passion for learning that will carry them through their school years and beyond.

Our bespoke curriculum is carefully crafted so that each child can develop academically and socially, whilst providing the knowledge and cultural capital needed to succeed. We ensure that an effective balance of broad learning opportunities are available for the holistic development of our children.

Through our broad and balanced curriculum, we grow minds that are motivated to question and develop a thirst for knowledge. We encourage our children to aspire to academic excellence and have high aspirations for themselves. Our teaching develops habits of independent learning and, critically, a love of learning. Children’s views and ideas are respected and encouraged, as well as resilient attitudes that seek to rise to a challenge and become lifelong learners.

Our children feel safe. They take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, learn to trust, share their feelings and grow. They celebrate theirs and others successes and learn from mistakes, developing the skills of resilience and perseverance.

Through our faith we grow hearts and emphasise the importance of developing children who are courageous, confident and caring. We focus on each child’s ability to think and act collaboratively and to show consideration to the world around us and kindness to others. We are guided by our faith and we encourage our children to live and act according to Gospel values.

We encourage our children to use the vibrancy of our great city and local area to learn from other cultures, respect diversity, cooperate with one another and appreciate what they have. Our curriculum promotes equality for all, providing equal opportunities and celebrating diversity. We achieve this by providing a strong SMSC curriculum, with British Values and our core values: moral, grateful, resilient, kind, curious and independent.

We provide experiences that are not only memorable but ensure that all children have access to a range of unique opportunities which enhance their lives in school and beyond. We firmly believe that it is not just about what happens in the classroom, it is about the added value we offer to really inspire our children.
