Early Years Curriculum Intent

At Holy Cross we grow heart and minds, today, tomorrow and for life.

"Pupils in Nursery and Reception receive an outstanding start to religious education and school life in general. " Section 48 Inspection, September 2021.

In our school, we are guided by our faith and encourage our children to live and act according to Gospel values. It is our goal that our children come to school filled with joy as each new day brings endless possibilities and that they feel safe, take risks, ask questions, make mistakes, learn to trust, share their feelings and grow.

At Holy Cross, our aim is to build relationships and create a learning environment which supports, enhances and fosters a child’s curiosity, confidence, resilience and thirst for learning. We aim to build on the wealth of knowledge and skills children already have when they arrive at our setting and to work collaboratively with parents and carers to encourage independent, enthusiastic learners who thrive and reach their full potential regardless of backgrounds, circumstances or needs. We celebrate differences within our diverse school community and promote a deep understanding of tolerance and respect.

Every child has access to a broad, balanced and enriching curriculum which prepares them not only for their current next steps but for future possibilities within our ever-changing world. We are passionate about children leading and engrossing themselves in their own passions, and learning. We therefore follow personal interests and individual needs when planning and ensure extended periods of time for child initiated exploration and play within our continuous provision. We recognise that children have a thirst for new experiences and knowledge, and believe they should be provided with rich first hand experiences to engage their inquisitive minds, widen experiences and promote awe and wonder about the world around them. We provide vibrant continuous indoor and outdoor provision to support learners in investigating, creative thinking and problem solving, building the skills of effective learners.
