Inspired by Chuck Close

Chuck Close is an artist that paints large portraits using a grid. His paintings are broken down into squares and each square is painted differently. We took our inspiration from that and did a project on a smaller grid.

Students used a large graph paper and drew an outline. The outside was numbered with even numbers and the inside was numbered with odd numbers. Or the other way around. I didn't let them know what the colors were until it was time to actually paint. Tables were set up with colors and the corresponding number. As they painted in the picture began to take shape.
