Learning about Texture

First graders learned what the word texture means and how it is displayed in various paintings. Essentially texture is how something feels or in the case of a picture how something looks like it might feel. Student were able to speculate on how artists create the look of a texture using only paint.

Our project centered around texture plates and rubbing. Each student had a choice of texture plates and crayons and created a variety of textures and colors on the paper. The following week we cut those textures into designs and shapes.
