2018 HMS All-School Read:

Refugee

Spring 2018: This year, members of the summer reading committee were busy reading some wonderful books for middle school readers, and they finally narrowed it down to the newest fiction written by Alan Gratz, Refugee. It is also the Global Read Aloud pick for Middle School/Junior High School readers. The Global Read Aloud is a collaborative effort organized by Pernille Ripp, a middle school English teacher in Wisconsin. The Read Aloud activities will take place next fall. Alan Gratz is an author for young readers who is based out of Asheville, North Carolina. In addition to writing historical fiction for young readers, he also has taught catapult-building to middle schoolers, lived and taught in Japan, and he even has written commercials and TV episodes.
