Class Lessons
Lesson 1
Welcome back! In lesson 1, I introduce myself, Miss Mitchell, the school counselor, and talk about what my job is. In the second part of lesson 1 I go through the activity, would you rather?. You might remember this from last year! If so, that's okay! The assignment is linked below.
Lesson 2
Lesson 2 is focused on a back to school check in. There are six boxes, just write a couple sentences! The assignment is linked below.
Lesson 3
In the 3rd lesson, I want to get to know you better. I want you to talk about something that you wish I knew. It might be that you wish I knew that you hate playing basketball but your parents expect to you play because your older brother or sister played basketball.
Lesson 4
What is important to you? In this activity, we will be discussing an important item about us, why it is important, and why it is important to get to know our classmates.
Lesson 5
Do you like chocolate ice cream? Do you have a dog? With this activity, we will be working to find things in common with each other. What did you learn about me? How much do we have in common? Were you surprised that we have certain things in common? Was it easy or difficult to remember what we don't have in common?
Lesson 6
For this lesson, we will be talking about differences. Why are differences important? We will be working to teach someone else something (the person will be me).
Lesson 7
What groups do you belong to? What does it mean to belong to that group? Groups have the same goals, help each other, look out for each other, include each other, and have the same interests. How is your class a group?
Lesson 8
In this lesson, we will talk about paying attention to how we think about ourselves and one another, and why that's important. For the activity, we will play the Thought Connection Game, I will have it set up in a google form. To wrap it up, what did you learn about your thoughts? Does everyone think the same thing when they are in the same situation? Is there such a thing as a "right" thought in these situations? Once you're aware of your thoughts, do you think its possible to change them so that you behave differently in situations?
Lesson 9
For this lesson, we talk about empathy. Empathy is defined as understanding another person's feelings and thoughts. For this assignment, you will be using the feeling angry. To wrap it up, why do you think we need to be good Feelings Detectives to have empathy for someone? Do you think it is difficult to show empathy for others who are different than you?
Lesson
Hello! For this lesson, we will be doing an assessment and the virtual learning tutorial. The assessment is not graded, I just want to know what you know.
Mindfulness Lessons
Mindfulness 1
In this lesson, we discuss the three parts of the brain associated with mindfulness. The assignment below asks about a time your brain felt like a shaken bottle, to identify the three important parts of the brain, and to select mindful thinking.
