Course Description: This subject covers technology concepts and trends underlying current and future developments in information technology, and fundamental principles for the effective use of computer-based information systems. This course explores the variation and future development of application, system software, hardware, network and security. Special emphasis is placed on social and ethical issues pertaining to the web, e-commerce and distributed computing. Students study system analysis, programming and database creation using simple hands on exercises along with learning about career opportunities in the fast growing field of technology.

Course 2: CSC 130- IT Essentials

Location: Online

Time: Asynchronous

Length: Semester

Course Description: This course is the first in a series for students wanting to pursue a career in information technology as a PC Technician or a Network Administrator. It begins with the basics of technology and progresses through the assembly of a computer system. Features and functions of computer components are introduced. The process of preparing and installing the components is detailed in a step-by-step manner. This course also covers hardware fundamentals for servers, fundamentals of a network and the physical components of a network. 

Credential: After completing this course, students are eligible for the CompTIA IT Essentials industry credential recognized by local employers

Course 3: EGL 101- Composition 1

Location: Online

Time: Dual Credit or recommended during summer semester

Length: Semester

Course Description: The first course in a two-semester sequence of English composition, this course introduces students to academic writing as a process of developing and supporting a thesis in an organized essay. Course topics include methods of invention, development, and organization; the elements of style, including the conventions of standard written English; and an introduction to research and documentation. Students write expository and argumentative essays based on analytical reading and critical thinking. 

Course 4: CSC 133- Help Desk User Support

Length: Semester

Course Description: This course focuses on the vital information and skills required for a user support professional including troubleshooting and problem solving; successful communication with users; determining a client's specific needs; and training end users.  For those considering entering the field, alternate career paths for user-support workers are covered. With balanced coverage of both people skills and technical skills, this course is an excellent resource for those in or preparing for the technical-support field.  

Course 5: CSC 132- Operating Systems for Help Desk User Support

Location: Online

Time: Asynchronous

Length: Semester

Course Description: This course prepares students to support users and their use of networks, desktops, laptops, mobile devices, virtual machines and the cloud. It reinforces concepts and uses hands-on, real-world experiences to address issues for software, networks, and virtual computing infrastructures.  It also prepares students for the most current CompTIA A+ Core 2 Certification exam. Topics include Windows 10 (and older versions), macOS, Linux for desktops, Android, iOS, Windows Mobile, Chrome OS for mobile, change management, scripting, Secure Shell (SSH) network protocol, and Windows Server Active Directory. 

Course 6: CSC 140- Introduction to Ethics and IT Security

Course Description: This course provides foundational knowledge of professional ethics and security. Topics include information privacy, security policy, network security, cyber stalking, malware, and other security issues. An introduction to modern security tools and their ethical applications are explored.
