Introduction to Teacher Education and Instructional Technology
Location: Nokomis High School and Online
Time: Online (2 face-to-face meetings per semester)

Course Description:
EDU 201- Provides an introduction to U.S. public and private K-12 schools through an exploration of the history and philosophy of education as well as current and recent issues. Examines school law, professional organizations, the influence of advocacy groups, the role of external agencies, and the characteristics of effective teachers and schools. This course fulfills a general education requirement at UIS in the area of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
EDU 210: This course is designed to introduce current and future educators and trainers to the use of instructional technologies. Students are exposed to a wide variety of teaching tools and techniques that can be incorporated into the classroom. Emphasis is given to provide students with actual experiences in the use of these tools and techniques.
Child Care
Location: Hillsboro High School (Classes meet at Coffeen Early Childhood Center)

Certification: LLCC EDU 201 and Early Childhood Education (ECE) Level 1 Certification
Course Description: This two-hour course is designed to provide students interested in a career in child and day care operations or in education with information and practical experiences needed for the development of job-related competencies. Students will be provided laboratory experiences either in a school-based or extended campus facility. Students will be expected to develop appropriate skills in program development and in assisting children and/or adults with activities. Classroom study will include child development principles and the skills needed to successfully guide children while keeping them healthy and safe. The program will combine a minimum of 120 classroom hours of instruction with a possible 480 hours of direct, hands-on experience working with children at a daycare facility culminating with a chance to earn the Child Development Associate Credentials. Earn CPR, AED, First Aid (Infant, Child and Adult) Certification, DCFS Mandated Reporter, SIDS, SBS and ECE Level I industry recognized certification.
