10th Grade Projects
10th Grade Projects
This was one of the projects I did in the first semester. I was in a group with a few other people, and we created an acto (similar to a skit, like a 10-minute play) based off the topic Fitting In/Betrayal. Our goal was to create a dramatic exaggeration using a play for reference, but by implementing our topic, people could understand the context of our play, even while speaking Spanish (we had a few small bits of Spanish in our acto). This was something my team worked on for a great majority of the semester.
In Spanish class, we created a recipe based off a food we enjoyed. We learned commands and vocabulary for foods and cooking, so I applied some of the vocab into this recipe. I created one for Ambrosia salad because it had a lot of fruits and interesting words like marshmallow. I wrote what is needed for the food, the recipe itself, the directions on how to make it, and then all of it rewritten in English. Finally, I got creative with the format and design of my document.
For the second semester, we had new classes. One of them happened to be chemistry. This was one of the first projects we worked on in this class. During our time learning about ionic and covalent bonds, we created a miniature presentation of any kind that would be entertaining to the viewer while still explaining in layman terms what the differences were between the 2 types of bonds. I ended up writing a story about an atom named Sparky who tells his life story, and I threw in some dumb/dad jokes in there because I felt like it.
The project we mainly worked on was the chemical reaction demo. We were assigned a partner as well as a chemical reaction to conduct, and we had to create a slide deck based off of it. The slide deck consists of the necessary chemicals and materials used, the steps to create the reaction, the chemical formulas, stoichiometry, and information about the reaction.
In our history class, we learned about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We were partnered up with a classmate with a certain article out of 30 in the UDHR and came up with a topic to present that goes against the human rights of that article, so I chose standardized testing. We researched a ton about our topics and put them into a presentation outline that would create a guide for our next step, which was to make a final slide deck out of our topic. Once we finished the slide deck, we presented this to rising freshmen, parents, and other teachers during exhibition.
Whenever parents and students attend open house, they generally see decorated pieces of paper with math problems on them testing their knowledge. Conveniently, that's exactly what this project is. Our classmates were partnered up with others, and our goal was to create a quadratic function, based off of what we learned, and have an answer key on the back explaining it. We wrote our function in standard, factored, and vertex form, as well as providing a hint and the answer to the actual problem.
