In this module, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the role of the Complex Area Business Manager, or CABM and his or her role with the SAF. The Complex Area Business Manager (CABM) is an important resource to schools for various fiscal matters. Student Activity Funds is an important area of CABM support because of the many risks associated with these funds. In some complex areas, the Complex Area Superintendent has also tasked the Administrative Services Assistants (ASAs) with supporting schools with SAF. The CABM provides assistance with training, oversight, reminders, reviews of requests for new SAF users and requests to change the access level of existing SAF users, along with all requests related to changes in the SAF Chart of Accounts. The CABM also reviews and enters requests for journal entry or modification. One important role the CABM (and some ASAs) have is assisting the Principal with the Administrator’s Checklist, to verify that internal controls for SAF are being exercised.
