Holy Family Montessori held their Senior High School Parents’ General Assembly last August 5, 2021 via Google Meet and was followed by the Junior High School Parents’ General Assembly last August 6, 2021 with the same setting.
Every year, every school has its own Parents’ General Assembly. This particular event talks about the academic progress of the students and the planned programs of the institution. However, this year’s assembly is different from the previous ones that occurred before the pandemic because this one happened online via Google Meet. The parents and guardians informed the teachers about the pupils’ strengths and ability to do their given tasks. They also talked about the problems that the students are currently facing and the students’ behavior based on their observation. In this assembly, the upcoming activities that the Montessorians should participate in are also being discussed. The parents and guardians are also allowed to ask questions, which are mostly regarding their children. The Parents’ General Assembly also has its benefits, like better school-to-parent communication, knowledge of the students’ situations, and a whole lot more.
The teachers also take the assembly as an opportunity to discuss the school’s rules and regulations, which are crucial especially in this new setup we’re all currently adjusting to. It is also a great opportunity to talk about school matters, such as the grading system, assessments, other data requirements, clubs, and information about the students so that the parents are informed about the students’ behavior, strengths, weaknesses, and areas of improvement. Talking about these can also help the teachers know the students’ personality and teach them better in school.
This school year is once again affected by the COVID-19, and it is truly difficult for us to communicate. But with the use of technology and the cooperation of both parents, guardians, and teachers, they can engage in an interactive discussion for the welfare of the students. The Parent’s General Assembly is indeed one of the most efficient ways for the teachers to communicate with the parents/guardians and address various concerns.
