Art History & Appreciation

OUR NEWEST ELECTIVE! Art History & Appreciation is divided into 2 half year courses. Art History & Appreciation 1 and Art History & Appreciation 2 This course has NO pre-requisite so it is perfect for those students who have an interest in art and didn't take STUDIO ART or students already pursuing other art electives.

ART HISTORY & APPRECIATION I: This course is an overview of art appreciation and history for all 10-12th grade students. Students will learn about art history through hands-on activities, virtual and physical museum visits complimented by demonstrations and discussions. Students will develop an understanding of the functions of art, art vocabulary; an understanding of the role art has played throughout history. Emphasis will also be given to the creative process with projects related to the periods in art history studied. Art History Part 1 will focus on prehistoric cave paintings through the Renaissance.

Prerequisite: None ½ Credit Grade Level: 10 - 12

ART HISTORY & APPRECIATION II - The Art History Part 2 course will include study of the High Renaissance through contemporary art. This course is an overview of art appreciation and history for all 10-12th grade students who have already taken Art History Part 1. Students will learn about art history through hands-on activities, virtual and physical museum visits complemented by demonstrations and discussions. Students will develop an understanding of the functions of art, art vocabulary; an understanding of the role art has played throughout history, and contemporary trends. Emphasis will also be given to the creative process with projects related to the periods in art history studied.
