Fluency checks are intended to be used as a one-minute timing of student oral reading. They are administered individually.
Phrasing – scooping words and phrases together
Expression – adjusting volume, attending to punctuation, noting dialogue tags
Juncture/Pause – using correct pauses for various types of punctuation, pausing for effect
Tone – varying tone, pitch, and volume to make meaning clear
Accuracy (Grades 3-5) - 95% or above
Automaticity – effortless word recognition with expression
Self-correction – recognizes errors and rereads section needed to ensure meaning
