Welcome to Impact Academy! I am Mrs. Allen, and I am SO happy to welcome you to my virtual classroom. Here is a little about me! I was born and raised in Georgia. I graduated from Georgia State University with my B.S. in Ed and my Master's. My father and mother live here in Georgia, and I have one brother that lives in Connecticut. I also have my own family! We live in Locust Grove. My husband and I are celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary this year. I also have a seven-year-old and a four-year-old. We have a one-year-old dachshund and three tiny fish.
This is my thirteenth year as a teacher, and my first year at Impact Academy. Last year, I taught fifth grade at Unity Grove Elementary in Locust Grove. I taught a virtual class last year for half of the day, and I loved it! While virtual learning is a different experience than being in a physical classroom, there are many benefits to learning online. I am thrilled to be able to teach from my home and to have partnerships with all of your families and being connected through the computer. I hope we will have wonderful experiences together this year. I am working with two other awesome teachers this year, Mrs. Osborne and Mrs. Millen. Mrs. Osborne is teaching Math, Mrs. Millen is teaching English Language Arts, and I am teaching Science and Social Studies. We all post assignments in our separate Google Classrooms. We will host Google Meets for our live instruction. This year, we will do a lot of online work, but we do hope to bring in lots of hands-on science projects (one per unit), virtual field trips, and maybe even a big in-person field trip for the students in the Spring! I also have a few partnerships with Georgia 4-H and the Georgia Farm Bureau. I will definitely have them as guest speakers this year! We are SO excited for our virtual year of fifth grade! Let's work together to make it GREAT!
