Our coaches are eager to enhance achievement and instill pride in our student-athletes both in the classroom and on the field and court. Luella High School Athletics is excited to kick off the 2025-26 school year! Our athletic programs are ready to showcase sportsmanship and character on the court and fields. For this school year, we offer football, softball, volleyball, flag football, cross country, and e-sports.
Our Lions aim to maintain our elite performance in Region 5-AAA, where we proudly achieved the title of 2024-25 Region 5-AAA Director Cup Winners. Last year, we earned seven Region Championships, five Region Runner-up titles, six Region/Area Players of the Year awards, and five Region Coaches of the Year accolades. We look forward to a year where we embrace our motto: We OWN It: Excellence with Pride
William Richardson is embarking on his first season as the head football coach, returning pre-season All-State players Markel Aguirre and Gabriel Jones. The Lions aim to maintain their playoff momentum after reaching the Sweet Sixteen for the past two seasons.
The Our Lady Lions Softball team were the Region Champions last season, finishing with an impressive 14-0 record in region play. They plan to continue their development, adding younger players to help them make a significant postseason run.
Our Cross Country Program seeks to build on last season’s successes, where the girls finished as Region Champions and the boys were Region Runners-up. New head coach Latrell Murray, a Luella alumnus and track state champion, aims to impart his knowledge to elevate the team to the next level.

Senior Markel Aguirre earned a Power Ranking of 77 in the state of Georgia, making him the highest-rated Luella football prospect since 2008. He was named to the Preseason All-State team by Recruit Georgia and Georgia High School Football Daily. Markel is committed to North Carolina State University, where he will receive a full football scholarship.
Senior Gabriel Jones has been named to the Preseason All-State team by Georgia High School Football Daily. A talented offensive lineman, Gabriel excels both in the classroom and on the field. He has also committed to attend Coastal Carolina University on a full athletic football scholarship.
Senior Courtney Edmonds was recognized as the 2024 Division 2 State GFFCA Defensive Player of the Year for flag football. She played a crucial role as the Lady Lion's defensive stopper while also earning the title of Area Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, Courtney was selected for two All-Star Teams and the All-Area All-State Team.
ACADEMIC AND LEADERSHIP SPOTLIGHT
Senior Zeana Harris exemplifies leadership among her peers. She is the captain of the softball team and has earned recognition as the Region Pitcher of the Year. Additionally, Zeana serves as the representative for the HCS SAAC and is the recipient of the 2025 Alyo Positive Athlete "Do Amazing Things" award. As an elite student-athlete, she excels both in the classroom and on the field. Zeana will graduate early as a member of the Class of 2026, completing her studies in December.
