Greetings Mustang Nation! Our student-athletes and coaches are hard at work to make sure that 2025-2026 is our best school year yet. We are excited to use this platform to share our journey with all of you.
Our wonderful gate staff has held it down making our events and jobs run very smooth! The are a valuable part of our program and we appreciate them greatly!
Our Admin team goes above and beyond to show up for our student athletes consistently to build and strengthen their relationships!
We would also like to highlight our booster clubs, sponsors, and parent support! It is vital to have all three phases of this covered in an athletic program, and we have a great support group!!
Football advanced to the 2nd rounds and lost on a last second field goal to a very good Cambridge team. The Mustangs finished 9-3 and for only the 2nd time in school history made the Quarterfinals.
Softball's season came to an end against Central Carrollton in the Sweet 16. They ended with a Region Championship and a lifetime of memories. It was fun to watch them gel and become a family! Congratulations ladies!
The Competition Cheer team ended their year with a trip to state where they put on a show! Congrats on a great season. They were fun to watch this year.
The girls' XC team qualified for State and ran really well, placing in the top 20 in the STATE! They ran well all year, and the Mustang Athletic family is really proud of them!
The Flag Football team advanced to the state playoffs for only the second time in school history! They had a record-breaking season finishing.
Athlete of the Week: Koiyah Matthews
Koiyah Matthews had an outstanding week on the court, delivering two big performances that helped lead her team to success. In a blowout win over Locust Grove, Koiyah scored 13 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, and recorded an impressive 5 steals, showcasing her energy and defensive intensity. She followed that performance with another strong showing against McDonough, finishing with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Koiyah consistently made an impact on both ends of the floor, creating scoring opportunities and disrupting the opposing offense. Her hustle, leadership, and ability to rise in big moments set the tone for her team. Because of her exceptional play and consistency, Koiyah Matthews is this week’s Athlete of the Week.
Athlete of the Week: Xander Dossett
Xander Dossett had an exceptional week on the mat, leading the Mustangs as they continued their early-season momentum with multiple podium finishes for the second straight week. He delivered a dominant performance at the North ATL Invitational, powering through his bracket to capture the championship and help secure the team’s second consecutive tournament title. Xander’s performance stood out among the field, earning him the Outstanding Upper Weight Award. As a reigning state champion, he once again proved why he is one of the top wrestlers in the region. His strength, technique, and competitive focus set the tone for the entire team. For his elite performance and leadership, Xander Dossett is this week’s Athlete of the Week.
Girls Basketball - Meet Our Captains: Amira Layne & Michelle Lloyd
Amira Layne and Michelle Lloyd serve as strong leaders for the girls basketball team, setting the tone through their work ethic, accountability, and team-first mindset. Both captains lead by example in practice and games, pushing their teammates to compete at a high level while staying focused and disciplined. They play a key role in building team chemistry and maintaining a positive, competitive culture throughout the season. Their leadership extends beyond the court, as they consistently represent the program with character and professionalism. According to the coaching staff, Amira and Michelle embody what it means to be captains by holding themselves and their teammates to a high standard every day.
Boys Basketball - Meet Our Captains: Charles Lewis, Sahmele Goffin & Jalen Watkins
Charles Lewis, Sahmele Goffin, and Jalen Watkins provide steady leadership for the boys basketball team through their commitment, toughness, and consistency. Each captain brings a unique strength to the group, whether it’s leading vocally, setting the pace in practice, or stepping up in key moments during games. They emphasize accountability, effort, and unity, helping keep the team focused on daily improvement. Their influence is felt both on the court and in the locker room, where they model respect and responsibility. The coaching staff values their ability to lead with purpose and create a competitive, team-centered environment.
Boys Swimming - Meet on of Our Swim Captains: Wyatt
Wyatt leads the swim team with confidence, focus, and a strong sense of responsibility as a team captain. He sets the standard in both effort and attitude, motivating his teammates to push themselves every day in practice and competition. Wyatt is committed to building a positive team culture centered on accountability and hard work. His primary goal this season is to help the team advance to the state swim meet and capture a region/sectional championship.
Student-Athlete Academic Highlight: Charles Lewis
Charles Lewis exemplifies what it means to be a true student-athlete, demonstrating leadership both on and off the court. He consistently takes on a challenging academic schedule while maintaining a strong balance between his studies and athletic commitments. Charles is well rounded, showing dedication, discipline, and time management in everything he does. In the classroom, he stays focused and accountable, setting a positive example for his peers. His character, work ethic, and respect for others have earned him the admiration of students and staff throughout the building. Charles Lewis continues to represent his program with pride through his commitment to excellence in academics and athletics.
Student-Athlete Academic Highlight: Rachel Richter
Rachel Richter is an outstanding example of leadership and commitment both in and out of the pool. As a senior swimmer, she balances the demands of her sport while remaining deeply involved in the school community. Rachel participates in work-based learning, demonstrating responsibility, professionalism, and strong time-management skills. She also serves as a peer facilitator, where her kindness, patience, and leadership positively impact fellow students. Well respected by both peers and staff, Rachel plays a valuable role in making the school a supportive and inclusive environment. Her dedication to academics, athletics, and service makes her a true model student-athlete.
