-On RazKids, listen to and read 1-2 stories this week.
Home Reading Hunt: Look around your home and see how many words you can read ( i.e., check labels, the newspaper, books, signs on the road,) . Print all the words you can read (this can been done over the week, adding a new word or two each day). How many words can you find? If this seems difficult for your child, you can use a highlighter and write the words for them to trace. Please encourage them to try on their own first.***
- Keep exploring Dreambox.
Materials needed for this activity: 2 sheets of paper, crayons/pencils, 8-10 items to put in the water, tub, sink, large clear bin
Instructions: Collect things from around the house for the sink/float activity. (i.e., spoon, pencil, rubber band, toy car, stick, rock, leaf). Discuss with your child what items they predict will float and what items will sink. You can make a chart using paper. Draw a line down the center of the paper. On one side of the paper print ”float” and the other side print “sink.” Place the items in the water. After testing all the objects, draw the items on the correct side of the paper.
Questions to ask: What other things do you think would float? sink? What surprised you? Were your predictions right?
Extension: 1. Label your pictures 2. Make a bar graph
Using materials around your house, can you make your ocean animal into a 2-D or 3-D shape (i.e., play dough, clay, natural materials). Keep your 2-D or 3-D creation or take a picture of it, because we are going to use it for an activity next week. See if you have a box to keep it in until next week.
Examples of questions you can research:
What do they eat?
How do they move?
What colour are they?
What part of the ocean do they live in?
How old do they get?
How long or big do they get?
**** Please help your child find a box so they can use it for their Ocean animal for the following week. We are going to make a home for our ocean creation****
