Parts of the body

  • The part of the body that is at the top of the head is called a crown it is normally a solid color.
  • A ducks cheeks are called Auricular.
  • A patch of see through secondary feathers on each wing is called the scapulars/reflector.
  • A ducks bill has a slightly thicker tip called a nail. This helps them dig for food in the mud.
  • The breast/chest is in the front of the duck's body, the ducks chest can be visible while swimming or flying.
  • The underparts of a duck are easily hidden while swimming.
  • Most ducks have short legs, but a species called the whistling ducks have longer legs.
  • A duck rump/rear end is often hidden behind there feather's but can be seen at some times.
  • A duck has a webbed foot that help them swim and walk.
  • Even when a ducks wing is folded you might see the colorful patterns on them.
  • The front of a ducks neck is called a throat just like ours.

  • A Pekin duck defends its self with its beak and uses it to scares off other ducks .
  • Did you know that a duck is not blind and can see colors.

Life Span

  • A Pekin duck can typically live between 9-12 or 15-20 years.
