Commanded by Colonel Xie Jinyuan, 414 Chinese soldiers defended Sihang Warehouse, a 6 story warehouse made of concrete walls 10 feet thick.
The main reason for this skirmish was due to the fact that civilians needed to evacuate what was left of the city. Sihang Warehouse was used as a distraction for Chinese civilians to get out of Shanghai before the Japanese turned the city into a giant pile of rubble.
The Japanese Third Division was tasked with throwing Xie and his battalion of 414 soldiers out of the warehouse. Due to the fact that Sihang Warehouse was really close to a bunch of embassies, The Japanese couldn't bomb the warehouse due to the risk of getting a international incident stuck on their record. The Chinese held the warehouse for 72 hours before fleeing across the river due to the evacuation being complete.
Sihang Warehouse proved that China wasn't going down without a fight.
