While war raged with the U-boats in the Atlantic, The U.S. and Japan were going head-to-head in the pacific. Much of this was fought by naval aircraft, a fairly new concept. This involved special aircraft designed for being launched off of aircraft carriers, which are basically big runways that are boats. This eventually led up to the battle of Okinawa, which the U.S. won after much fighting. Even after virtually surrounding Japan, yet they didn't surrender. After warnings to surrender from the U.S., they still didn't, which led to the atomic bombing of nukes on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
