D-Day, AKA the invasion of Normandy, was a huge military operation during World War II that was on June 6, 1944. The goal of the process was to establish a foothold in Nazi-occupied France and begin the freeing of Western Europe from Nazi control.
The operation was led by the Allied powers, primarily the United States, Great Britain, and Canada, and involved the largest sea invasion in history, with over 156,000 brave soldiers/ troops landing on the beaches of Normandy in France. Paratroopers were crucial to the operation as well.. The operation was preceded by lots of planning, including the creation of a very smart plan to mislead the Nazi soldiers about the location and timing of the invasion.
Despite many deaths and difficult conditions, the Allies were able to create a beachhead and begin pushing inward. The operation was marked by some of the most strategic moves of the war, including the Battle of Omaha beach, where Germans were pushing back Americans HARD.
D-Day is widely considered the largest turning point in WWll, as the successful creation of a foothold in France allowed the Allied forces to start the liberation of Europe from Nazi control. The operation was a huge achievement in all of military history, showing the ability of the Allied forces to create a large-scale amphibious invasion and in the end contributing to the destruction of Nazi Germany.
