Food assistance for qualifying families - The Maryland Department of Human Services in conjunction with the Maryland State Department of Education has secured approval from the USDA on its joint submission to operate a Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) Program. Families will receive up to $370.50 per child in extra food benefits. Learn more and apply HERE.

Elementary GT Instructional Seminars - Seminars are a great way to expand your knowledge and skills around a topic of interest in a non-graded environment. Participation in seminars is open to all students and is scheduled to not conflict with any synchronous class time. In addition, some seminars will be scheduled for a single semester (fall or spring) or they could be scheduled across both semesters. Enrichment Opportunity for Kindergarten & 1st Graders - The GT Department will be conducting a series of lessons called Primary Talent Development again this year. Instrumental Music at LoES - Mrs. Williams presented information about Instrumental Music options for this school year. All 3rd graders may sign-up to be in our 3rd Grade Orchestra. All 4th graders may choose to stay on their string instrument from 3rd grade or join the 4th grade band! Online enrollment forms are due by September 16th. Vaccination Clinics - HCPSS, the Howard County Health Department and the Maryland Partnership for Prevention again this year will offer flu clinics at no cost for both students and staff. Students/staff do not have to go to a clinic at their home school and may attend any clinic. Staff may find additional information online (staff login required).
Pre-registration is required, during which parents/guardians and/or staff will schedule an appointment at the clinic of their choice. Registration will be open September 21-30 at www.vaccineconsent.com.
Flu clinics will take place outdoors and will utilize a drive-through or walk-through system. Anyone attending a clinic will be required to wear a mask or protective face covering.

Family File - LoES is currently has 70% of families that have updated Family File. Every year HCPSS parents must complete a Family File for each child. HCPSS utilizes Family File for parents/guardians to complete emergency information. Parents/guardians must verify and/or update information for each child, and can do so by logging in to HCPSS Connect and selecting the Family File tab on the left and then clicking on Family File.

Parent/School Partnership & Communication - The Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) contains several provisions which promote parent/school partnership through communication. One such provision gives parents of students attending Title I schools the right to ask for and receive information about the professional qualifications of their child's classroom teacher, paraprofessional, and/or long-term substitute teacher. Information & Application for Free & Reduced Meals - HCPSS participates in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs which provide families with significant benefits to help save money. Qualification is based on family size and income, and enrollment is confidential. All children in households receiving benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can get free meals regardless of income, and students from households that meet federal income guidelines are eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals. If financial circumstances have changed for your family due to Covid-19, please check to see if you are eligible to participate in the Free and Reduced Meals program.
Families currently eligible must submit a new application each year.
