Five academic talent programmes are offered to Secondary 3 students:
Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP)
Chinese Language Elective Programme (CLEP)
Computing Talent Programme (CTP)
Humanities Programme (HP) with an option to join the HP-BSP dual track programme
Science and Mathematics Talent Programme (SMTP) with an option to join the SMTP-BSP dual track programme or SMTP-CLEP dual track programme
A student with a strong academic foundation is eligible for a place in the talent programme if he satisfies the criteria:
General criteria
Sec 2 MSG of 2.00 or better
Above the average marks (of cohort) for Project Work (PW) and Oral Communications (OC)*
Conduct grade is "Excellent"
Less than 5 demerit points
Do note that being eligible does not guarantee a place in the talent programme as selection would also be determined by other factors such as relative performance of students in the cohort, teachers' recommendations as well as ranked choices by the student during registration.
To be eligible for the SMTP-BSP or HP-BSP dual track programme, as well as for AEP/MEP students applying for any of the talent programmes, students must score an MSG of 1.5 or better, and also satisfy all the criteria for the relevant talent programme(s). Shortlisted students will be invited to attend an interview with the school leaders before placement can be confirmed.
If you wish to be considered for the HP-BSP or SMTP-BSP Dual Track programme, choose at least one Talent Programme Subject Combination that has "HP with.... + CSC" or "SMTP with ... + CSC".
If wish to be considered for the SMTP-CLEP Dual Track programme, choose at least one Talent Programme Subject Combination that has "SMTP with... + LC".
It is important to understand that eligibility based on the criteria does not guarantee placement in the academic talent programmes. As there are limited places in the academic talent programme classes, the final placement depends on the academic performance of the cohort, teachers' feedback, and interviews, if any.
A student who did not meet the criteria but wishes to join one of the above academic talent programmes can submit an appeal registration upon release of the allocation results.
Considerations may be given for:
excellent project work (in Secondary 2) and/or
special talents & achievements related to relevant subjects in the academic talent programmes
Shortlisted appeals may be subjected to follow-up interviews with the respective academic talent programme owners. Successful appeal cases will be admitted into the academic talent programmes at the sole discretion of the school.
Note:
Students in the SMTP-BSP and SMTP-CLEP dual track programmes will be placed in SMTP classes and those in the HP-BSP dual track programme will be placed in the HP class.
SMTP-BSP and HP-BSP students are expected to attend the full range of activities under BSP on top of taking CSC. They will be required to do a research project/paper with their parent talent programme (in SMTP or HP) in Secondary 3, followed by BSP research in Secondary 4.
SMTP-CLEP students are expected to attend the full range of activities under CLEP on top of taking Literature in Chinese. They must take up a research project in SMTP in Secondary 3.
All academic talent programme students would be placed in academic talent programme classes across different consortia.
