In addition to the compulsory subjects* listed on the subject combinations page, students may choose to take additional subjects depending on their interests and aptitude. However, students may only take up to a maximum of 10 subjects, subjected to approval from the school management.Â
* excluding PW, OC and ACC.
For example, a student in Humanities Programme (HP) may be allowed to do the following subject combinations: EL, HC, MA, AM, CH, PH, SS, Lit in English, Geography and a 3rd language - a total of 10 subjects.
Students already reading the following additional subjects at lower secondary can continue to do so in upper secondary:
Third Language (including Malay Special Programme i.e. MSP)
Art Elective Programme
Music Elective Programme
They may, however, decide to drop their third language in favour of a new additional subject in upper secondary. It is not permissible to drop AEP or MEP in favour of taking up a new additional subject in upper secondary as it is a 4-year commitment under the agreement with MOE.
Students may choose to take up ONE of the following additional subjects at upper secondary provided they meet the criteria for the additional subject and obtain approval from the school management (if the additional subject is the 10th subject).
Biology (not for BSP or HP)
Computing (not for BSP or HP)
Theatre Studies (offered at Nanyang Girls' High School)
Advanced Music (offered at Nanyang Girls' High School)
The table below shows the combinations of possible additional subjects for upper secondary students.
