WHAT SUBJECTS TO CHOOSE?

Passion: Can you be suitably motivated to sustain your study for the next two years? Read some notes or textbooks, have a sense of the content, and see if they rock your boat (or, at least, not sink it).

Aptitude: A level subjects are very different from the same ones in IP Year 4 or O level. A level subjects form the bridge to higher education courses: they are more rigorous and require much more self-study. Talk to teachers and seniors, and definitely plan to attend the subject talks.

Options: Refer to useful websites, especially if you have a university or career destination in mind. They will specify subject requirements for admittance (e.g. Want to study Medicine in the UK? Several universities require H2 Biology).

January & February:

Process for selection of subjects

Frequently Asked Questions about subject combination.

In Jan & Feb of JC1, an important activity will be the selection of subjects to take at A levels. The process of choosing a suitable subject combination would involve the following steps:

STEP 1: Explore your career inclinations and consider potential university courses that will lead you to your preferred career.

STEP 2: Consider your preferred university courses and the admission criteria for the ones you are interested in.

STEP 3: Identify subjects of interest that are prerequisites to your chosen courses. Attend relevant subject lectures and selection tests.

STEP 4: Select your subject combination upon considering the above factors and the available subject combinations in HCI.

There are resources and online tools available to help you navigate the different steps. Click on the links above to find out more information.
