Hi, my name is Adam Zahn. I am excited to be back as the Head Coach for the Hermosa Valley Boys Basketball team. I grew up in Hermosa, played basketball at Redondo Union, and went on to play for the University of Oregon. From there, I had the privilege of pursuing basketball professionally for 9 years, playing all over the world, including in the US, for the Indiana Pacers NBA G League team. After retiring, I discovered a new passion for coaching and teaching the game. My brother, Andrew, and I started a club basketball program, South Bay Select, 12 years ago, which has flourished into one of the premier club programs in the South Bay. Most of our former players have played basketball at Mira Costa, Redondo Union, and Loyola, with a few going on to play at the collegiate level. I'm looking forward to continuing the legacy of South Bay Athletics.
Hi, my name is Andy Richards. I'm excited to return as the Assistant Coach for the Hermosa Valley Boys Basketball team! I grew up in Cheviot Hills and played basketball at Crossroads High School, where we won back-to-back CIF championships and were state championship runners-up. I continued my basketball journey at Eckerd College in Florida, where our team reached the Division II "Elite 8." After two years, I transferred to the University of San Diego to focus on earning my business degree, stepping away from collegiate basketball but never losing my passion for the game.
While at USD, I stayed connected to basketball by working out with the men’s and women’s basketball teams during their pre- and post-season sessions and played intramural basketball. After graduating college, I joined high-level men’s leagues that included Division I and professional players.
My coaching career began when I was invited back by the head coach at Crossroads High School to support their program and assist with player development. I quickly realized how extremely fulfilling and fun coaching could be. After my first season at Hermosa Valley, I’m thrilled to be back and help these players grow and succeed. I can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish together this season!
Hi, I’m Laurence Sotsky, and I’m excited to serve as one of the Hermosa Valley Middle School boys’ soccer coaches this season.
My son, Tyler, is an 8th grader, and I’ve coached his AYSO teams including the Region 18 U14 All-Star team since he was young. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of coaching many of the players here at HVS.
In my day job, I run a venture-backed technology company, and I’ve found there are real parallels between building a business and building a team: you set clear goals, communicate consistently, develop individual strengths, and create a culture where people support each other and improve every day. Whether it’s on the field or in the office, the best results come from preparation, accountability, and playing for one another.
I grew up in New York and played soccer through high school. I’ve remained a dedicated student of the game ever since and love coaching soccer. I’m thrilled to begin the season with such a talented group of boys.
Hi, I’m Mark Wyly, and I’m excited to support this incredible team of young footballers as they represent our school and our Hermosa Beach community in the 2026 season! My son, Patrick Wyly, a 7th grader, is my third child to attend this wonderful school, and it’s with genuine gratitude and respect that I step into this opportunity.
Soccer has given me tremendous opportunities and even greater life lessons. As a former NCAA player, I learned the importance of activity, attitude, and accountability — doing the right things, doing them with a positive spirit, and owning the outcome, whether good or bad. These traits transcend sports and become tools we all use throughout our lives.
Philosophically, I don’t believe in failure — I believe in learning. That will be the guiding theme of my leadership style and my approach to the 2026 team. Together with Coach Sotsky, we look forward to representing the Hermosa Valley Dolphins with pride and commitment!
Hi, my name is Tricia Scaglione. I am the mother of 3, with students on two Hermosa campuses - Aly (8th grade), Natalia (6th grade), and James (3rd grade). With 7 years of experience coaching girls youth basketball for HBYB and at the YWCA in Santa Monica, I am excited to now be part of the HVS team. I grew up playing hoops in CT and VA through HS for school teams and traveling with AAU around the East Coast. I also played soccer and ran track to round out the seasons. Sports have truly provided some of the best experiences in my life, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with these young ladies and be a part of the Hermosa Valley Athletics team!
My name is Rocky Jones. I am excited to return to HVS Athletics as one of the Girls Basketball coaches this season. I hope to continue to build the program for several years to come. I have led youth sports teams in the community for over a decade for my son Dash (junior at Mira Costa) and daughter Zoe (8th grader at HVS) across multiple sports and leagues. Along the way, I've coached baseball, soccer, basketball, and football. While there have been successful seasons, I’ve found the greatest compliment is when the majority of kids on the team return to play again the following year.
Hi, my name is Monique Gonzalez. I grew up playing soccer and spent most of my days, nights and weekends on the soccer field. I enjoy snowboarding in the winter, beach days in the summer, and hiking on the weekends. I’ve coached both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams in the past and am excited to coach again this year. In addition to coaching, I have also been a teacher for about 15 years, and this is my 12th year at Valley, where I teach 7th and 8th grade math. I’m excited to continue supporting our student-athletes in another successful soccer season.
Hi, my name is Alyssa Crenshaw! This is my second year coaching the Hermosa Valley Cheer Team, and I'm thrilled about this opportunity. Before joining HVS, I coached the Redondo Union High School Cheer Team for six years and was a cheerleader there throughout my four years of high school. Go Sea Hawks!
In addition to coaching, I'm proud to be a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) teacher at Hermosa View School. My goal as a coach is to inspire our team to become true spirit ambassadors. While cheerleading is our main focus, we'll also prioritize academics, kindness, fostering a positive school culture, and supporting our school community.
I’m so excited for the year ahead and can't wait to cheer on our incredible student-athletes. Go Dolphins!
