During local anesthesia lab, we learned the most up to date techniques on how to administer local anesthesia . These techniques were focused to enhance patient comfort. For example, we practiced putting topical lidocaine and used pressure anesthesia to help with comfort at the injection site. It has been researched that the topical anesthetic should be in contact with the tissues for 2 minutes for it to take effect. It was also found that the tissues must be dry before applying the topical anesthetic. Keeping up to date on research allows us to give our patients the best care.
