DH 116: Med/Dent Emergencies and Theory

In the dental office, anything can happen and it is our responsibility to manage any medical emergencies in a safe, efficient manner. This involves being prepared and understand what to do in each situation. One project that we did was making a first aid kit that we can keep in our locker at school. This first aid kit includes many items including bandages, alcohol towettes, benedryl and tylenol in the case that any medical need or emergency arises. This has been a great example on a small scale of how we can prepare for medical emergencies.

DH 223: Clinical Experience IV

In clinic, it is important to prevent medical emergencies from happening to the best of our ability. One way we do this is ask the patient with asthma to bring their inhaler to every appointment. In addition we have an albuterol inhaler in our emergency kit in the clinic in the case of an asthma attack. These steps allow for us to be prepared in the case of a medical emergency.
