The beginning of the summer of 2022, Elizabeth, Sasami, Natasha, and Avery embarked on a once in a lifetime experience. They went to Zanzibar, Tanzania, Africa to work on turtle conservation, but were happily met with more volunteering opportunities like working at a recycling plant and teaching local school children during class and on their field trip to the aquarium the scholars stayed at. The scholars explored the island with activities like snorkeling, walking through forests, and seeing the city of Stone Town. Seeing the villages and everyday life was very insightful, and left a lasting mark on the scholars in addition. From this trip, they learned the value of being present and living in the moment, and were touched by the local's open arms and eagerness to learn.
