Jonathan, Gina, and Hajra went to Italy in the summer of 2013 for their international experience! This team joined with Earthwatch Institute and archaeologists from nearby Italian universities to excavate an ancient Etruscan tomb. The scholars also had a great time exploring Rome and Florence. During their trip, they realized that falling into a tourist trap didn't mean becoming engulfed in tacky souvenir stands or cheap sandwich shops, but a tourist trap was becoming engulfed in a closed off mindset that ignores the drive for discovery. The scholars chose to embrace the uncertainty and to strive to discover and explore things they haven't yet before.
