Submission Guidance | Coversheet | Resources
In addition to the required coursework, candidates must complete and submit a culminating experience to earn the Master of Education in Teaching degree. The Plan B is meant to demonstrate graduate-level expertise and mastery in some aspect of a candidate's graduate studies that is related to their professional practice.
Full expectations for the Plan B requirement are communicated by Cohort Coordinators.
Please refer to the Graduation page for submission deadlines.
Plan B Defense
In order to schedule and complete a defense, the candidate must have a complete draft of their paper. This means:
Chapters 1-5 are complete, with references & appendices
At the advisor/coordinator's discretion, an evaluation rubric can be used during the defense, & can be used to help candidates prepare for the symposium.
Please follow the Plan B paper submission instructions below and forward them to your Plan B advisor and reader for their information.
The candidate's final plan B paper (including any necessary revisions) should be approved by both the advisor and reader at/after the Plan B defense.
After Plan B approval, the candidate will route the Plan B Cover Page to their advisor and reader for signatures.
The advisor will email the fully signed cover page to the candidate and medt@hawaii.edu, and also copy the candidate's cohort coordinators with the subject line: " Plan B Paper completed - candidate first name, last name" to confirm the completion of the Plan B requirement.
When the candidate has received the signed cover page from their advisor, they will email one file that includes their fully signed cover page and the final pdf version of their Plan B paper to medt@hawaii.edu, and copy their STE 613 instructor, and Plan B advisor.
The cover sheet should be signed after the paper has been finalized and approved by the advisor and second reader.
The advisor will provide candidates with the signed cover sheet so they can include it in their final paper and upload it into the MEdT repository.
Coversheets should follow the standard MEdT format. The original, signed, hard copy coversheet should be turned in to the MEdT Office.
How to use the coversheet template
The text in the brackets should be replaced with your information.
Print a hard copy and get signatures from your advisor and reader once they have approved your final paper.
DO NOT PRINT the comments. To turn off, select "Final" from the Track Changes toolbar prior to printing.
Candidates will share their Plan B research at a Research Symposium in the Spring semester of the year they intend to graduate.
The Research Symposium gives candidates an opportunity to: develop a presentation or poster based on their Plan B, practice and develop their proposal writing and conference presentation skills, and receive constructive feedback from faculty mentors on the day of the conference.
Full expectations for the Symposium presentation requirement are communicated by Cohort Coordinators.
1st year candidates are required to attend the symposium and participate in the entire event.
This requirement is reflected in a course syllabus.
2nd year candidates are required to present at the Symposium and participate in the entire event.
