For this Innovation and Design project, I will be utilizing the Bloxels hardware with a theme based off of the beloved cult classic sci-fi series, Star Wars. This allows me to place blocks on a gridded board in order to interact with what goes on in the game that this board controls. Me and my partners will be using it to code a Star Wars themed adventure armed with our wits, our blocks, and a hypothetical, unfortunately-not-real lightsaber. My partner, speaking of which, is named Jason. Our level is focused on platforming, my favorite game genre. Also, there are elements of a collect-a-thon style, as there are a certain amount of Rebel-emblazoned coins to collect. As far as on the real-world end of the spectrum, there's a flat board with square slots all throughout, which you put blocks in. Each block has a designated purpose, and so once we got a grip on what does what, we did just fine. Something I had to learn was how to orient he blocks in relation to the part of the screen that you want to follow that pattern. Otherwise, our level would've been disoriented and really bad and nonsensical. Something I would've done differently had I been given the chance to do so is that I would've given myself more time to fully explore my creative options. You see, I'm actually quite the fan of Nintendo's series Super Mario Maker, where the player can create their own Super Mario Bros. levels for themselves and others to experience, even if I'm kinda terrible at making levels. It would've been nice to be able to see what I could make. A career that this connects to is a PR guy for Star Wars. I'd love to help more things like this come to light one day. A challenge we overcame is that we had to familiarize ourselves with what kind of block does what, where to put the blocks in relation to the rest of the the level, how to interact with each block-all that good stuff. We eventually did, and then coasted through the rest. Now without further ado, here's a list of twenty-five things you could do with this technology.
.Code a water level
.Code a level where you literally just step forward once to win.
.Code a level where you walk forward for a long time to win
.Code a level where you jump once to win
.Code an enemy gauntlet level
.Code a level where you die instantly
.Code a level where you just cannot beat anything.
.Code a level where you are dropped into a pit of stormtroopers
.Code a level where you are stuck inside a box and cannot get out
.Code a level where the level is shaped like Luke Skywalker's face
.Code a level where you stand on a block above an abyssal chasm
.Code a level where there are billions of coins just sitting there
.Code a level where there is flat ground and then a jet that launches you off the edge
.Code a level where it's on the Death Star. *Imperial March starts playing in the background*
.Code a level where you're Luke.
.Code a level where you're Darth Vader
.Code a level where there's just a lot of R2D2s to talk to
.Code a level full of jet boostie things
.Code a level full of C3POs
.Code a level full of Obi-Wans
.Code a level full of Tuscan Raiders
.Code a level full of Jawas.
.Code a level full of spike floors
.Code a level that literally spawns you at the finish line
.Code a level where you instantly fall of a cliff because of another jet boost thing.
INFINITE POSSIBILITIES!!!
Now, here are some pictures of the process for your viewing pleasure, all you folks at home.
All of the above are block sequences for sections of our level.
