Planning Questions
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
With a partner, Sydney.
What materials will you need for your project?
We will need the embroidery machine, fabric, ipads, thread.
What is your plan to create in this project?
A shirt without embroidering the back to the front.
What unique qualities will your project have?
It will be totally designed and produced by Sydney and I.
Day 1
Today we set up our website and then went over to the embroidery area and got some fabric to start testing on
Day 2
Today we worked on getting some of our ideas done on some practice fabric.
Day 3
Today we continued that and figured out our chosen designs.
Day 4
Today we practiced a little more and got started on getting Sydney's shirt ready for embroidery.
Today we started on some practice and when we felt good we started on Sydney's shirt. Although I started well it ended up getting messed up.
Today we decided to try again with Sydney's shirt, and we got two down before our needle broke. We get it fixed and start a flower.
Today we went to finish our flower and the thread got all messed up and snapped the needle again! Today Mr. Renner was gone so we tried to get help but no one could do it.
Day 8
We had the needle again and we tested some things and then began on our actual shirt.
Day 9
Absent
Day 10
Today we had some trial and error with the bobbin, fixed it and got back to work.
Day 11-12
Today we finished up our design, only having to finish part of our flower and the rest of 2028. Then we began to work on our websites.
Using the embroidery machine, I created a shirt that says "meow" because on our last project we definitely overshot our abilities. While yes we successfully made the shirts last time, what could've been around a 10 day project turned into over 2 weeks. So this time we decided to repeat the same project but better and then do a smaller one on my shirt.
During this process, I learned how to replace a needle. While we don't actually do this as students, I learned how. We were able to find the directions and understand them. As well as watching Mr. Renner fixing the needle.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to knowledge constructor because with every problem we over came, we used things around us to help. Things like video tutorials, to the instruction manual. We were able to find our data and fix our problem.
A challenge I overcame on this project was thread kept breaking. I was able to do it by identifying the problem. Then making an effort to do things manually. If it was a simple fix, we would fix it and make sure that it wouldn't happen again.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the shirt used. The reason why I would change it is because it was a full length shirt. Which would usually be fine but it was a pretty thick shirt. When we went to embroider it would get caught on the shirt. Once even causing us to cut it.
