Day 3
Started using more planks
Day 4
Tried to get the planks to stay angled upwards
Using Keva Planks, I created different patterns because I was unsure of what to make. Another reason I decided to make random patterns was because I've never used a keva plank before and wanted to see how well they hold up when building with. Trying to make different structures can be helpful because it can show how durable a product is.
During this process, I learned how to build things with Keva planks. Building things with Keva planks is a good idea as it helps you boost your creativity and problem-solving skills. Improving your creativity can show you how to fix problems from different angles and help you be more engaged when working on something because you're coming up with the solution yourself. Another reason for using creativity is that if you see that your fix helped solve the problem, it will boost your confidence and mood. In conclusion, being creative can help with your mood and problem-solving skills.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Innovative Designer because I used Keva planks to come up with a solution to how many planks it takes to hold up a structure. Another reason my project ties to being an innovative Designer is that I tested many different patterns to see which held the planks up better instead of just stopping at one.
A challenge I overcame on this project was the planks not balancing as I wanted. I was able to do it by instead of placing the planks individually, I would make stacks of 10-14 and then place them together. Placing the planks in a large stack was helpful because it all of the planks' weight made them group together to stabilize the weight.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change my ideas. The reason why I would change it is that I didn't take into consideration how hard it would be to balance the planks. Now that I understand how fragile the structures are, I could refine my designs and rebuild them more successfully. In conclusion, taking all the knowledge I gained from this project would help me have a smoother experience next time creating the patterns/structures.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE because the website nagb.gov, Engineering Design is a iterative, systematic process for solving problems that involves creativity, experience, and accumulated disciplinary knowledge. This means my project connects to the Engineering Design CTED because I made creative patterns to solve the problem of how many planks it takes to balance a structure.
My project connects to careers in Engineering Design because I created a creative design to solve a problem. According to the website Indeed, it says Design Engineer is someone who develops new designs and projects. The National average salary for a Design Engineer is 89.050
