Using cardboard, tape, markers, and hot glue, I created a heart cake because I like the way the cake looks and wanted to see if I could create it using just cardboard, markers, and tape. Making this cardboard this cardboard cake is a good idea because it gives me something to display in my room without costing money. The first step I did to create this project was a finding a cake design I liked so, I settled on the trendy heart cake,.
During this process, I learned how to create a cake out of cardboard. Learning how to make a cake out of cardboard can be a helpful thing because if I ever wanted to make another project with multiple layers I can transfer the knowledge I learned while making the cake (which has multiple layers) to the new project. Furthermore, learning how to make a cardboard cake helps you with making layers on other projects.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to being a Innovative Designer because I made a cake with just cardboard. Going into this project, I didn't know what I was going to make so I found a design off of the internet and tried to make it myself. In conclusion, my project ties to the classroom standard Innovative Designer because I created a unique project using the materials I had.
A challenge I overcame on this project was not being good at drawing heart shapes. I was able to conquer this issue by practicing drawing hearts before I started my project. Another way I conquered this problem was if I didn't like the way I drew the shape I turned the cardboard over and tried again.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the top shape of the cake. The reason why I would change it is because It kind of looks wonky because the top of the cake doesn't fully cover the bottom. So, if I had the chance to complete this project again I would wait to glue the parts together and trace the original shape on cardboard so I could make sure that the top and bottom of the cake are the same size.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE because I designed and built a unique project out of just cardboard. According to the National Assessment Governing Board "Engineering design is an iterative, systematic process for solving problems that involves creativity, experience, and accumulated disciplinary knowledge. This means my project connects to Engineering Design because in this project I repeated the same things over and over (creating the icing on the top and plate designs) which means iteration.
My project connects to careers in Engineering Design because I created a unique project out of cardboard that involves creativity.. Using the website indeed, it says that a Design Engineer it someone who develops new designs and projects. The national average salary for a Design Engineer is 89.050.
