Are you working by yourself or in a team?
By Myself
What materials will you need for your project?
Pins and a button maker
What is your plan to create in this project?
5 Buttons
What unique qualities will your project have?
The images I choose
Day 1
List of 10, planning questions, and started looking for images.
Side note: The button machine broke so I was not able to totally complete the project but, I made one part of it.
Day 2
Started looking for images to turn into pins
Day 3
Printed out images and cut them out
Day 4
Tried using button maker but a part broke.
Using a button maker and pins I created a Pochacco because pins are expensive so I wanted to see if I could make some decent-looking ones myself. I started this project by searching for things I liked online and trying to find good-looking photos of them. Looking online, I finally decided on Pochacco, a character from Sanrio.
During this process, I learned how to use a button maker. Using a button maker can be useful because if you're trying to get people to care about something or start a campaign you can make buttons for people to wear so wherever they go they'll be showing off the cause. Historically, buttons have been used to relay information for campaigns/politics.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to being a Knowledge Constructor because I looked up how to use a button maker. Going into this project, I had no idea what a button maker was so, I looked up a tutorial of somebody using one in order to complete this project. Using the internet to solve a problem is always a good idea because if it's a niche thing and not everybody knows how to do it there's for certain someone on the internet who had done it before that is sharing their experiences with the machine/thing/item.
A challenge I overcame on this project was the machine not working. I was able to do it by asking a friend to help me. to see what/if I was doing something wrong. Another way I combatted this issue was getting the teacher to help me but unfortunately the machine was still broken. So, instead of making 5 pins I just did one.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the size of my images and how I cut them out. The reason why I would change it is because my images were too small so they look weird in the pin. The way I would change this is by using the circle cutter instead of tracing the pin and cutting it because sometimes when cutting it's easy to mess up your lines and make odd shapes.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to Engineering Design because I used a machine to create something new. My project connects to the CTE Engineering Design because according to the National Assessment Governing Board "Engineering design is an iterative, systematic process for solving problems that involves creativity, experience, and accumulated disciplinary knowledge. This means my project connects to Engineering Design because in this project I used a systematic process to create my pins by following a tutorial.
My project connects to careers in Engineering Design because I used a machine and systematic process to create a pin or new design. Using the website indeed, it says that a Design Engineer it someone who develops new designs and projects. The national average salary for a Design Engineer is 89.050.
