Are you working by yourself or with a team?
For this project, I will be working by myself, though I might require the assistance of others.
What materials will you need for your project?
All I will need is a Bloxels kit and a device with a camera.
What is your plan to create in this project?
I plan on creating a maze designed like cranberry juice. It's not very enjoyable, but you just can't get enough of it.
What unique qualities will your project have?
My project will be designed to make the user go insane.
Using Star Wars-themed Bloxels, A video game design platform, I created a maze designed to make you go insane. I did this because it seemed like a fun challenge I was willing to commit to. I also find entertainment in making this kind of thing, which motivates me even more.
During this process, I learned about what people hate to do. In order to design a level that makes people want to throw their device across the room, I need to implement elements that people cannot stand. This typically includes anything tedious.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties most strongly to Empowered Learner. This would be because an Empowered Learner sets targets and goals, and adapts to meet them. In this project, this was a big factor.
A challenge I overcame on this project was getting enough blocks to complete the board. This was however a pretty easy fix. I just had to ask a friend if I could borrow some, and that was enough.
Given a chance to do this project again, I would change my theme. Bloxels offers a variety of different themes to build my story in, and I feel the theme I chose wasn't the best theme for this level. Perhaps I should've chosen something completely different.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects most strongly to the Digital Multimedia and Computer Programing CTE programs at Hastings High School. My project can connect to careers in things like video game development and design, as well anything of the sort.
I will be sharing this process a while after I've actually completed it, so there will be no images attached of the physical Bloxels board.
The first step was not completely necessary, but I felt I needed it anyway. I took a survey with my classmates asking what they would dread to see in a video game. My results varied greatly, so I'll just say that most people hate anything tedious. No picture for this.
The next step after evaluating the survey results is to start making the Bloxels level. I decided to use an unhealthy combination of pinpoint precision exercises and tedious scavenger-hunt techniques to torture the player.
And finally after a tedious process, I am done! Attached below, I have some videos of some friends playing and raging over my level!
