Reflection

Using iMovie, an IOS-sponsored app used to create unique films, I created a commercial advertising my cardboard creation from 7.P4. This would be because if I want people to use my product, I need to advertise it, and I believe a commercial is the way to go. In fact, I might use iMovie for a variety of other project is the future.

During this process, I learned about filmmaking and editing. IMovie requires a lot of manual work, like cropping and cutting, that requires good attention to detail to get right. you need to know what parts you can cut out, and how to combine different clips to send the message you want.

The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties mostly into Creative Communicator. This would be because Creative Communicator is all about expressing your information in unique and innovative ways making use of models and other visualizations.

A challenge I overcame on this project was in the editing process. I had about ten minutes of footage, and only a minute time frame. I had to cut out a lot of footage, and I found it hard deciding what to keep and what to scrap. I was able to overcome this hurdle with patience. It took a very long time, but by going over each clip one by one, I was able to section off portions that I thought weren't necessary.

Given a chance to do this again, I would change my format. I feel that the approach I chose to go with, being a prescription-drug themed ad, did not capture the project as I wanted it to. I might instead go with something like an arcade game for sale, or a set of customizable games.

Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project most strongly connects to the Digital Multimedia CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in formating and editing advertisements and general media, as well as scripting and performing.
