Are you working by yourself or with a team?
I will be working alone for this project.
What materials will you need for your project?
For this project, I will need a digital platform, and a camera.
What is your plan to create in this project?\
I plan on creating the life of a very nice tree for this project.
What unique qualities will your project have?
This project will be unique because it represents a topic that I happen to have a very deep passion for.
Using Cospaces, a VR/AR design platform, I created the life story of a very nice tree. I chose to make this because this story represents a topic of which I happen to have a deep passion for. Not quite as much anymore, but I have dedicated a good chunk of my life to learning and practicing the art of making bonsai trees.
During this process, I learned
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties into Creative Communicator because Creative Communicator is all about expressing your idea in an innovative, unique way, and about experimenting with different styles until you find just the right thing. In this project, that was all I was doing, and my end goal is to express my idea, just like a Creative Communicator.
During this project, I had to overcome a huge hurdle. Only one day before the deadline, my entire save for my merge cube was mysteriously deleted, and required me to completely start over. All the progress I had made putting everything together was for nothing. I only overcame this challenge by putting in my all and putting aside an unhealthy amount of time to completely remake my project. I stayed up working on the project for much more than I could have imagined. But in the end, it was worth the struggle.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change my approach to my story. My story isn't very self-explanatory, and practically needs the written story to understand what is happening. Next time, I would probably choose a topic along the lines of a How-To, or a presentation, rather than a story.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project most strongly connects to the Computer programing CTE program at Hastings High School. It might work with careers like video game design, as many modern video games make good use of AR, such as Pokemon Go!.
This project follows a story and has a "plot", so instead of going step-by-step through how I made this, I will go through the story.
There once was an old and strong oak tree. It had stood through the test of time, and was nearing the end of its life. One warm spring morning, It dropped all of its seeds which it had been growing all month.
Years after that warm spring morning, long after the old oak is deceased, a single sapling emerges from the moss. It curves and twists in the wind, and is shaped by its environment.
A decade after the birth of the young tree, its own environment has kept the sapling from growing big. One day, a wanderer came upon this young tree. Inspired, the wanderer decided to dig it up, and raise the tree in his home.
The wanderer took the tree back to a workshop, and using his expansive knowledge he had gained throughout his traveling, he trimmed, wired, and re-potted the tree, with intentions of making something extraordinary.
Almost a year later now, the wanderer has settled down, and taken the supporting wires off of his tree. He has a room dedicated to this marvelous creation, neatly decorated with complimenting decor. The story of this tree is done, for it is now a Bonsai Tree.
And just for good measure, here is a short video of me flipping through the scenes in my story.
