Using cardboard, hot glue and duck tape, I created my own clash cards becauseI wanted to create something fun while being mindful of waste. Instead of buying plastic or paper cards, I thought using cardboard would be a great way to repurpose material that would otherwise end up in the trash. Everything we use can be recycled or reused in some form, and by making these cards, I not only got to indulge in a creative project but also made sure to avoid contributing to unnecessary waste. It felt good knowing I was using what I already had, giving it new life instead of throwing it away.
During this process, I learnedhow to work with minimal cardboard, which was a fun challenge. At first, I thought I’d need a lot of material to make the cards look great, but I quickly realized that with a bit of creativity, I could make the most of even small scraps. I had to be strategic with my cuts, carefully planning out each card design to avoid waste. It taught me how to be more resourceful, using only what was necessary and finding ways to make every piece count. It was surprising how much you can do with just a little cardboard when you're intentional about it..
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to global collaborator becauseBy putting my project online, I’ve turned it into something that connects me with a global community, making me a collaborator on a much larger scale. Sharing my homemade Clash Royale cards not only allows others to see my work, but it opens up the opportunity for people from all over the world to get involved, or even try the project themselves. In this way, I’m not just creating for myself but contributing to a global conversation about sustainability, creativity, and recycling. It's exciting to think that my small project could inspire others to think about reusing materials in new ways, making me a part of a bigger movement.
A challenge I overcame on this project washaving to share supplies with my teamates. I was able to do it byI learned to be more organized and efficient with what I had. I made sure to plan ahead, using the supplies in a way that would last me through the entire project. I also communicated with my teammates, letting them know when I’d be done with something so they could use it next. It taught me how to be patient, flexible, and collaborative, which made the process smoother and more enjoyable for everyone involved. It was a good reminder that working together means sharing not just the workload but the resources too..
Given a chance to do this again, I would change how i went at the project. The reason why I would change it is becauseI would change the way I planned out my steps before starting the project. The reason why I would change it is because I realized that jumping into the work without a clear plan made things take longer and caused a few mistakes along the way. If I had taken more time to sketch out my designs and organize my materials from the start, I could have worked more efficiently and avoided redoing parts of the project. A better plan would have helped me stay on track and finish with even better results..
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program, which focuses on developing problem-solving skills, creativity, and hands-on experience in designing and building innovative solutions. Through this program, students gain valuable knowledge in engineering principles and design processes that directly support the goals and direction of my project.
My project connects to careers in engineering becausey project connects to careers in engineering because it involves applying technical problem-solving skills to create innovative solutions. Whether designing systems, improving processes, or developing new technologies, engineering is all about using scientific knowledge and creativity to meet real-world challenges. In my project, I’m learning how to combine theory with practical application, which is a key component of any engineering career. This experience provides insight into the importance of collaboration, continuous learning, and hands-on work, all of which are fundamental to success in the field..
