Using my iPad and iMovie, I created an "All About Me" video for 8th grade because I wanted to share some of my favorite things with the world. It was a fun project where I got to showcase my hobbies, interests, and the things that make me unique. I used iMovie to edit the clips, add music, and make everything look polished. It felt like a great way to express myself and let others get to know me in a more personal way. Plus, it was a nice break from just doing assignments—I got to be creative and have fun with the process!
During this process, I learned how to make clean transitions and how to do voiceovers in iMovie. At first, I wasn’t sure how to make the video flow smoothly, but once I figured out how to use different transitions, it really brought everything together. The voiceover was a bit tricky at first too, but once I got the hang of it, it became a great way to add my personal touch to the video. It felt awesome to learn those new skills, and now I feel more confident using iMovie for future projects.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to the Global Collaborator standard because I will be sharing my video with the world. By creating and posting the video, I’m not just sharing it with my classmates or local community, but opening it up for anyone to see. It’s an opportunity to connect with people from different places, share my ideas, and learn from others who might have similar interests. Using technology in this way helps me practice collaboration on a global scale, even if it's just through a fun, personal project like this one.
A challenge I overcame on this project was realizing I hadn’t used Creative Commons licenses for the media I included, which meant I had to completely start over. At first, it was frustrating because I had already put so much time into the video. But I quickly realized it was a learning experience and I needed to make sure everything I used was properly licensed. I tackled the challenge by working hard to find new, licensed resources and staying focused throughout the process. It ended up making the project even better because I was able to be more thoughtful and creative with my choices the second time around.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change the length of my video. The reason I would change it is because I want to share more about myself. I realized that there were a lot of things I didn't get to include, like more of my hobbies, experiences, or some fun memories that help shape who I am. If I had a little more time, I could make it even more personal and showcase a wider range of what makes me unique. It would give me a chance to connect with others on a deeper level and share more of my story.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multimedia CTE program at Hastings High School because it involves using technology to create and edit a multimedia piece. In the program, students focus on developing skills in video production, graphic design, and digital storytelling, all of which are directly related to what I did in my project. By working with iMovie to make my video, I was practicing some of the same skills taught in the CTE program, like video editing, content creation, and using digital tools to communicate a message. This project helped me get a taste of what it's like to work in multimedia, and it made me realize how valuable those skills are for future creative projects or even career paths.
My project connects to careers in content creation because I am making a video and posting it online for the whole world to see. Content creators today often share their stories, ideas, and passions through videos, blogs, and social media platforms, much like what I’m doing with this project. By creating and sharing my video, I’m gaining hands-on experience with the kind of work that many people in the content creation industry do every day. It’s a great way to practice the skills needed for careers in digital media, like editing, storytelling, and engaging an audience—all things I can use in the future if I decide to pursue a career in content creation.
