8P5-Virtual Reality

To make this house, I used the website Cospace. Cospaces has a 'library' of items you can place in you virtual world. I used these items by making them the right size and placing them in the spot I wanted them, I made two stories by first laying out the walls of the basement and then adding a second floor with it's walls. Once I was ready to furnish, I took away the top layer without deleting it, just making the walls and floor disappear. Once I was done making the basement the way I wanted it I made the top level reappear. Then I started furnishing the upstairs. Once that was done and the garage had been made along with the back patios I placed triangles on the top as the roof.

I have used these materials before so I did not learn very much, but this design was much bigger than the other projects I have worked on. I did learn how to use the y, x, and z coordinates to more accurately position a piece. I also learned that for 3d shapes, from Cospace's build section, can be made into single material or have each face a different material or different color. 

Of the 7 standards that Michigan Integrated Technology Competencies for Students has set (Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator) I chose Empowered Learner. My project best ties to this standard because I set a goal of creating a house using Cospace. Throughout this project I looked at what other people had done on Cospaces and incorporated into my project parts of what others had done. I also met this standard because my whole project is based on using computer resources and that is one of the requirements for this standard.

One of the challenges that I overcame while building my virtual reality was that I had my floor plan set and wanted to start decorating. The problem was, I could not get to the bottom floor without completely deleting what I had already set on the top floor. I solved this by making everything on the top floor invisible by clicking on a icon in the top left corner which brought up the option for each item I set in my virtual world. The other option it gave me was to lock any of my items in place, I used this to overcome the challenge I faced of not being able to change my view without moving the item that I was clicking on. This allowed me to change what I was looking at and keep all of the main pieces in their place.

If I redid this project I would do only one thing differently, I would add more detail. With my design being so big I had to cut some of the more minor decorating out, I wish I could have kept it. For instance, I would have added more things to the tables, or to the kitchen cupboards. I also could have used up more space in some of the bedrooms with more decorations.

The Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project ties to Digital Multimedia. With the world becoming more digital there are lots of careers that this skill applies to, each in high demand. XR Developer, XR Designer, Software Developer, Software Engineer and AR/VR Maintenance and Support Technician.
