Q. Are you working by yourself or in a team?
A. I will work alone to code my Micro: Bit
Q. Are you working by yourself or in a team?
A. I will need my computer, The Micro: Bit website, and a Micro: Bit.
Q. What is your plan to create in this project?
My plan to code my micro: bit is that I will watch a tutorial of what I want to code, I will make the code, I will connect my Micro: Bit and then I will download my code onto my Micro: Bit.
Q. The unique qualities of your project?
The unique qualities of my project are that I will spend time trying to code on not only block put Python too.
Day 1
Got my micro bit and used the Micro bit website to code.
Day 2
Connected my micro bit to my computer and downloaded the first code.
Day 3
Got familiar with the coding system and made my next few codes.
Day 4
Made the smiley button code. Finished making simple codes.
Day 5
Started making the few more complex codes that I found interesting.
Day 6
Finished my coding updated my website page on micro: bit project.
My first complicated project
Rock!
Paper!
Scissor!
SHOOT!
Made a code but spent most of my time playing it. (So fun!)
Timing is the key to success!
To make my project I needed the following supplies, a computer, a micro: bit, a USB cord, and the website https://microbit.org/. I used my computer as my main technology because I accessed my website on it, and connected the micro: bit to it with the USB cord. The micro: bit was really the center of my project even though I did not use it as much as the computer my project was not successful unless the micro: bit showed the code I had downloaded. The USB cord I used to connect my micro: bit device to my computers monitor. Finally the https://microbit.org/ was extremely helpful for me to watch tutorials and make codes to download onto my micro: bit.
Making my micro: bit codes was quite a new experience but I found myself loving it more and more as I explored new codes. A few of the many things that I learned are that, you can connect just about anything to your computers monitor with a USB cord. Another thing is that there are different types of coding, block, which many people use, python, which is a more difficult code, and JavaScript, which I have never tried but I would like to sometime. The final thing that I learned is that coding can be a lot of fun and have great results!
Of the 7 standards that Michigan Integrated Technology Competencies for Students has set (Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator) My project ties to Empowered Learner because I went into this project not knowing anything about micro: bit. I learned a lot through this project and would most definintly keep improving upon it. I had set a goal to code 5 separate codes and I achieved I reflect on this goal now and see that I did meet it with coding 6 1/2 different codes. I say 6 and 1/2 because I successfully coded 6 but I did not fully complete the python code for one of the more difficult. At the beginning of my project I did not have a USB cord in my micro: bit kit, so I talked with the classmates around me and found and extra cord. That means I collaborated with my classmates on this project further making this project tie to the standard of Empowered Learner.
The challenges of this project were small given how relatively easy the website made it to code, however there were a few instances I had to solve a problem that I encountered. The first challenge was related to my last project, I did not finish on the correct date so I was a little behind at the beginning of my project. I overcame this by focusing on my micro: bit project in class time and working on my other project at home and in advisory. There was one other challenge, I had absolutely no idea how to connect my micro: bit. I solved this by watching my peers and asking for help from my classmates. (I did eventually connect my micro: bit). These challenges were small and easy to overcome but with every time I problem solve I get better and more prepared for the harder challenges.
Given a chance to do this again I would know try to learn how to code with python and javascript. I would want to do this because I know how to code with the block setting now and want to explore more options. Also, at the beginning of this project I had said that I wanted to try coding with python, and I did! However, it did not go as planned and I made the mistake of starting on a more difficult code. So given the chance to do this again I would explore more codes.
The Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multimedia in the CTE program at Hastings High School. My project also ties to the careers in robotic engineering, possible jobs that this skill helps me with are in Science Data Computer Programing, Software Administrator, and Computer Systems Engineer.
