Planning Questions
Q. Are you working in a group or by yourself?
A. I will be working by myself.
Q. Materials do you need for this project?
A. I need an iPad, clay, scissors, paper, and a marker.
Q. What is your plan to create this project?
A. I will set up my iPad in the same position every day, each day I will do a different scene at least 150 images long and edit it once my video has reached over 700 images.
Q. What unique qualities does your project have?
A. My project will have multiple scenes that all transition into the next one.
Day 1
Thought of ideas for my stop-motion video.
Day 2
Continued making my props.
Day 3
Finished making my props and looked for a place to film.
Day 4
Could not find the props I had made so I began brainstorming another iMotion.
Day 5
I found a chunk of clay and planned my i Motion.
Day 6
Continued to take pictures.
Day 7
Continued to take pictures.
Day 8
Continued to take pictures.
Day 9
Continued to take pictures.
Day 10
I finished taking my pictures, however my iPad would not download my video so that I could edit it.

Edited my video.
In order to complete my iMotion video I used the following materials, An iPad, the app iMotion, the app iMovie, a clump of mostly purple clay, a chair, and a small sign that said "Yay!" For my video I used the app iMotion, on the iPad, to take pictures of scenes that I made with my clay. Every time after the app took a picture I would slightly change the scene. Once the app put the images together it looked like the clay was moving by itself. The chair was for holding my iPad because I needed it at the same position each day that I took pictures. I found that using a pair of scissors was more convenient for some of my scenes than splitting or tearing the clay with my hands. I felt that my scene would be more interactive if there was a word bubble or two, and making the iMotion was fun so why not say "Yay!"
When I was making my iMotion it taught me a lot about time management. I was required to have a 3 minute long video with at least 700 pictures. When I was making my props for my video at first, I had a plan of what I wanted to do and how I was going to do it, but I did not anticipate that the modeling clay would not be as easy to work with as I thought it would have been. After spending two days on that course, I had to scratch it and start with something else. When that did not work I only had 7 days left in my project to completely start over. I had to crunch my scenes into only a few days and I did end up with a full video. Since my time had shrunk, I learned that it is important to have backup plans even if you are sure something will work, because it might not turn out.
Of the 7 standards that Michigan Integrated Technology Competencies for Students has set (Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator) My project ties to Innovative designer because I created ideas for my own scenes in my video and I created a detailed video. This also ties to my project because I used the Digital Medias of iMotion and iMovie to create my video.
In this project there were a couple of challenges that I had to work through. First, I had an idea to make a video of a modeling clay person swim. However after making my props and getting everything set up for 3 days, I realized that the modeling clay would not fit what I needed to make, so I began using a toy elephant and made my video a little more of a comedy. That brings me to my second challenge, I came into class on the fourth day and my props were not were I left them, everything I had made was undisturbed but the toy elephant was gone! I looked around and when I had checked everywhere I knew to, I asked my teacher for help. When he could not find the elephant, he gave me a ball of purple clay so I changed my entire video and made a video of clay moving. Although these seem like minor problems they did push me back 4 days. I eventually finished my video and went to edit it but the third challenge came as my iPad had full storage. This prevented my from working on the second to last day of our project. When my iPad was fixed I began to edit and found that the app iMotion had cut 3 scenes of about 150 pictures out, so I had to lengthen my other scenes.
If I redid this project I would make sure that there was plenty of storage in my iPad. I was glad that my idea of having someone swimming and then of an elephant was vetoed because I was able to get a lot more pictures of the clay, so I would not change that. However it would have been a lot smoother if I had just started with that idea.
The Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My iMotion video connects to careers in Digital Multimedia. With this skill I would be able to have jobs in animation, such as, computer animation, digital animation, television animation, 2D animation, and stop motion animation.
